LANGUAGES

My Love For Languages

I was taught two languages from a young age: English and Afrikaans. Those are my two home languages. My mom is English and as you'll see later on, my dad is Afrikaans. I, however, went to an English primary school and an English high school as a result of my parent's wish for me to get a headstart within the language of education that would one day be one of the top global languages and would help me out one day when I graduated university and went overseas. It really sparked my love for languages as it shares a basis with many other languages. Although sad, that I did not get to go to an international school or an Afrikaans school, I am grateful for my English education as it has helped me greatly to communicate with many people from many countries and many different and diverse walks of life.

Half of my mom's family comes from the UK and I have French ancestry which you'll see, has had a massive impact on my life.

Ek Is 'N Boeremeisie

Although I attended predominantly English schools, I identify as Afrikaans and regard it as my culture. I have a very large Afrikaans family on my dad's side (as most Afrikaans families are) and it is absolutely beautiful having that. I am definitely very family orientated so it means a lot to me. I also have Swedish roots on my dad's side (my name and surname is Swedish), which also sparked my interest in languages.

Parler Vous Français?

I've always had an interest in France and in the French language. It must have something to do with the fact that I have French in my blood as it is one of the many countries that make up my ancestry (my second name is French). I started speaking French in high school and carried on with it at university. Although not fluent, it is something that I believe - the more you do, the better you get. I love French rap and singing in French is one of my passions. I have been blessed to have French friends and influences in my life that has only fuelled me and my passion further.

안녕하세요

Fun fact: I have Korean family. Yes, me. I have subsequently fallen in love with the culture and as I am planning to go to Seoul once I graduate, I am sure to fall in love with the country. In 2021, I pursued further learning Hangul and how to speak Korean. I have had many Korean influences from a young age; from my family, to my friends. I plan to go to Korea after I graduate and work in the film and music industry as an artist and as an artist publicist/manager. It is something I am passionate about and something that has been laid on my heart. I plan to be fluent in Hanugl by 2022 - when I graduate and when I go over to Seoul.
